Depending on the economic sector, the country of origin of the foreign worker, their education and experience, economic alliances between Canada and their country of residence, the length and purpose of stay, an  employer may hire a foreign worker through a straightforward path or through a two-sequence one. Most employers would have to go through the latter, thus first requiring them to obtain a positive or neutral labour market impact assessment, LMIA. An exemption from LMIA is sometimes possible if several conditions are met.
